MAKING THE ARMED FORCES YOUR WAY OF LIFE: THE SERVICE SELECTION BOARDS TODAY

Dear Friends,

A very warm Namaste and a resounding Jai Hind!

Having looked into the history of Service Selection Boards in India in my last post, let me briefly introduce you to the SSBs, as they stand today.

The Structure

A Service Selection Centre comprises more than one co-located Service Selection Board (SSB).  The organisation Tree of a typical SSB is shown below:

Testing Team

The testing team comprises the following:

  • The Interviewing Officer, who is either the President (Major General/ Brigadier) or, the Deputy President (Colonel).
  • Four Group Testing Officers, commonly known as GTOs (Lieutenant Colonel), including one Senior GTO, with each board.
  • There may be four psychologists in each board, including one Technical Officer (Lieutenant Colonel). Thus, there may be a total of ten officers in one Selection Board.

SSB Locations: The locations of Service Selection Boards across India are enumerated in succeeding paragraphs, as a ready reckoner.
